Start with the client, not the interior
A premium salon is not just expensive finishes. First identify who it serves: local residents, busy professionals, families or hotel guests. Describe the client's problem, the expected level of service, convenient hours and reasons for repeat visits. Test your hypothesis by talking with potential clients and analyzing specific competitors. A beautiful space does not replace clear demand.
Build a product matrix
Categorize services by duration, consumables, practitioner qualification and required equipment. Calculate how many working hours can realistically be sold without compromising quality. Don’t base your plan on full capacity in the first month. For each service line define its role: acquiring new clients, encouraging regular visits or generating add-on sales. This helps choose equipment and team size before major purchases.
Inspect the premises before committing
Assess accessibility for clients, parking, entrance visibility, neighbors and the competitive environment. Separately verify the permissibility of the chosen activity, the layout, engineering conditions and the ability to coordinate the project with specialists. Obtain written terms for the lease, fit-out and handover of the premises. If critical issues are not yet resolved, don’t consider the location launch-ready just because it looks attractive.
Separate investments and reserves
In the startup estimate, itemize fit-out, equipment, furniture, deposits, team preparation and marketing separately. Treat the operating reserve separately: rent, payroll, consumables and other regular payments until revenue stabilizes. Prepare both a baseline and a conservative scenario. The date when revenue covers current expenses and the payback period for all initial investments are different metrics and must not be conflated into a promise of quick ROI.
Hire a team to the service standard
Define the roles of manager, receptionist and specialists, the client handover rules and the complaints handling process. Check portfolios, communication and compliance with operational standards. Before opening, agree terms and necessary formalities with a relevant specialist. By launch, the team should understand the client journey from first contact to rebooking, not just the technical steps of procedures.
Prepare sales before opening
Create a project page, a clear service menu and a booking channel. Test how quickly inquiries are answered and who converts them into confirmed visits. Plan local partnerships and advertising tests with measurable budgets. Measure not the number of followers but the cost per completed visit, average ticket and rebooking rate. A phased launch helps spot failures before scaling client acquisition.
What to prepare for the consultation
Send the concept, the intended neighborhood, a list of services, the budget and the project stage: idea, searching for premises or a signed lease. Svetlana Tataurova helps link concept, economics and the launch plan into a sequence of decisions. In the consultation we can determine what additional data should be collected, which costs to verify and which actions should precede the fit-out. The final scope of support is agreed per your project.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start with a consultation without having premises?
Yes. At this stage it is useful to define premises requirements, the service mix and acceptable costs before signing a lease.
Is there a universal opening budget?
No. It depends on the format, premises, fit-out, equipment and team. You need an estimate with a separate reserve and multiple occupancy scenarios.
